So You Think You Can Dance Vegas Round

June 6&7 is the "Dance for your life" stage in Vegas where over 200 dancers are cut to only 20 people. These two hours were pretty intense with the editors whipping through the dancers and making it hard to make notes on everyone without having to watch and pause the show every few minutes. We are just going to mention the highlights and will do a more thorough review next week as we finally get to see the final 20 in an organized manner.

First hour shows hip hop choreography by Shane Sparks or a contemporary routine by Mia Michaels to big groups of people...basically everyone had to learn the routine within an hour and then do the choreography back in groups of 4-5 in front of the judges. Loved Mia's comment on "Don't be such a needy dancer!" Some people just need to be put in their place, this is a competition not a rehearsal! The weak ones were eliminated instantly. The ones that were put through were then given a CD with 5 songs and had to choreograph their group of 5 people with one song of their choice over night. A lot of frustration and tension as different styles clashed. Some really pulled through though! Best quote of the night "This is such an emotional process. I don't think people realize this (dance) is our life!"

At this point, the judges went through these groups and eliminated, gave them one more chance for a solo or put them in a room to tell them at the end of the night if they made it in the top 20. The judges mentioned several times that they would review all the tapes and not judge based solely on one performance.

These are your top 20 with our comments:

Anya: sexy Latin/ballroom dancer we saw in New York
Pasha: another russian boy doing ballroom style - man we can't handle this kind of dancing.
Cedric: Pop 'n locker
Ashlee: Contemporary/lyrical?
Danny: Contemporary/lyrical. Travis Wall's adoptive brother. This guy has a serious attitude problem so why did they put him through? Good tv we guess?
Jessi: baby-oil girl - bites the big one...why did they put her through
Jesus (aka Chuy): contemporary with some Latin flair
Jimmy: Contemporary/lyrical?
Lauren: Contemporary/lyrical? She's the one who worked with Tyce last year and this gril is brilliant and beautiful...she is going to make it far
Kameron: Contemporary/lyrical?
Sabra: Contemporary/lyrical?
Neil: Contemporary/lyrical?
Sara: The first B-girl on the show!
Shauna: Contemporary/lyrical?
Ricky: This contemporary dancer will definitely make for good TV, but he needs some make up and teeth whitening!
Hok: boring, not dancing just breaking without all the acrobatics. Twitch was a way better dancer. This one was obvious because of last year's commotion that he didn't have a work visa in USA.
Lacey: last year Schwimmer's sister

Too bad they didn't put Janet through, even though she had one fake arm you couldn't tell one bit, she was incredible and would have made for very good tv.

So there it is, until next week where we get to reference some video clips!
